“iFermenter” stands for Fermentation with intelligent cell factories. The process is intelligent because it communicates with the producers, the cells themselves.
We will develop iFermenter using Synthetic biology, metabolic and process engineering, modelling, contro theroy and environmental engineering.
iFermenter will convert residual sugars to antimicrobials, to protect food and feed from pathogens (harmful microbes).
Our project aims to recover high value compounds from sugar residuals, and to turn fermentation processes converting
these residual to antimicrobials cost effective.
iFermenter is a short for “intelligent fermentation”, where the cell factories are modified and are able to plug-in to a computer interface that communicates with the cell factories during fermentation.
